Shanghaî Daily is reporting that the construction of Disneyland Shanghai, China’s second Disney theme park, will kick off next month, following the closure of the Shanghai World Expo on October 31. The land for phase one is ready for use and two of the total of seven roads planned for the project have passed checks, according to yesterday’s National Business Daily.

Disney/Pixar Animation Studio’s “Toy Story 3D” has crossed the $1 billion threshold at the global box office making it the first animated film to ever reach such a feat. In fact, this is Disney’s second film this year to reach the $1 billion mark -Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland” being the other film to reach the astounding number.

Guillermo del Toro’s is developing a film based on Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction. Del Toro surprised over 6,000 fans at a panel at San Diego’s comic book convention Comic-Con with the announcement that he is teaming up with Walt Disney Studios to produce a film based on the classic theme park ride, built in 1969.

Having see a full-length version of Disney’s Wonderful World of Color as captured by a park guest who then so graciously posted the footage on YouTube, I can say that the show is quite impressive. At just under 27 minutes, the attraction uses water, special lighting, fire, video and more to bring a variety of Disney characters to life in stunning color.

Disney/ABC Television Group will launch “Disney Junior”, a new multiplatform brand and 24-hour basic cable/satellite channel and online site devoted to preschool-age children. Scheduled to debut in the U.S. in 2012, Disney Junior will invite mom and dad to join their child in the Disney experience of magical, musical and heartfelt stories and characters.

Walt Disney World is planning the construction of a new 2,000-room resort that will open in 2012. “Disney’s Art of Animation Resort” will feature 1,120 suites with room for as many as six people per room and another 864 traditional rooms, with a design theme based on four of the company’s most popular animated movies.
