Fess Parker A.K.A Davy Crockett Dies at 85 Years Old
Fess Parker, a 1950s idol who launched a craze for coonskin caps as television’s Davy Crockett, died Thursday of natural causes. He was 85. Family spokeswoman Sao Anash said Parker, who was also TV’s Daniel Boone and later a major California winemaker and developer, died at his Santa Ynez Valley home. Sadly, His death comes on the 84th birthday of his wife of 50 years, Marcella.

If you have been waiting for an annual passport that would allow access to both Disney theme parks in the United States, wait no longer. Disney now offers a new premium annual pass for admission to the parks at both Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort called “Disney Premier Passport.”
Sherman Brothers Honored with Window on Main Street, U.S.A.
Main Street, U.S.A. was buzzing this past week with the tune of several familiar songs as Richard and Robert Sherman were honored with their own window. The window dedicated to the Sherman Brothers reads “Two Brothers Tunemakers,” with their names inscribed underneath. A window dedication is the highest honor a cast member can receive at Disneyland Park.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom recently welcomed the birth of a critically endangered western lowland gorilla. The newborn is doing well and has already become an integral part of the gorilla family group that includes first-time mother, Kashata, father Gino and two other females.

Every since Disney Parks first announced the return of “Captain EO,” the 3-D film starring Michael Jackson and directed by Francis Ford Coppola that was shown at Disney theme parks in the 1980s and 1990s, there has been an incredible response from fans with many wondering exactly when the classic attraction would reopen. Well wait no longer as “Captain EO” is scheduled to re-open tomorrow, February 23.

Walt Disney World has announced plans for Summer Nightastic!, a series of events that begin in early June 2010 and run through the summer season. Summer Nightastic! will include the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade, a huge daily firework show at the Magic Kingdom, and a new drop profile and effects for the Tower of Terror.

Disney Names Hawaii Resort and Launches New Web Site For Project
Disney has finally decided upon a name for the resort they are currently building in O’ahu, Hawaii. The resort, which is slated to be open by Fall 2011, is called “Aulani” which is Hawaiian for “the place that speaks for the great ones” or “the place that speaks with deep messages.”

D23, the official Disney fan club that was formed just last year, has put together a fantastic list of events for 2010. Included in the list is a free “50 and Fabulous” screening series featuring classic Disney movies, D23 one-year anniversary events at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and a special celebration marking the 40th anniversary of the Walt Disney Archives.
Should Tom Sawyer Island Be Turned Into ‘Lost’ Island?
A group of fans of the ABC show “Lost” have started a petition to persuade Disney to create a “Lost” island at Disneyland. The “Lost” attraction would replace “Tom Sawyer Island”, which is seen as being outdated. While I consider myself to be a hardcore fan of “Lost” as well, this is a bad idea in so many ways.

The Walt Disney Co. has officially unveiled its long-awaited KeyChest initiative that should it take off will impact digital movie downloads. The initiative would allow a user to purchase a movie or tv show that would be stored on a remote server and standardized in a way that would allow the media to be viewable on multiple platforms.
As Expected, Marvel Shareholders Approve Sale to Disney
The Associated Press is reporting that shareholders of Marvel Entertainment Inc. have approved the company’s acquisition by The Walt Disney Co. The $4.3-billion acquisition will close at the end of the day, bringing Spider-Man, Iron Man, and 5,000 other comic-book characters under the same roof as Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck.

After a nearly 5 year hiatus, “Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln” reopened last Friday at Disneyland. While the 2009 version of the show is a slightly revised, the real attraction is the brand-new Mr. Lincoln animatronic which features a fully electric head—a first for an audio-animatronic figure.
