Sneak Peek at the Magic Kingdom’s Revamped ‘Hall of Presidents’
Dewayne Bevil of the Orlando Sentinel was able to get a sneak peek of the Hall of Presidents attraction that has been revamaped and is scheduled to reopen on July 4th at The Magic Kingdom. While the big news is the addition of our 44th president, Barak Obama, there are additional changes and updates as well.
Pixie Hollow Summer Vacation Sweepstakes
Disney is offering a Pixie Hollow Summer Vacation Sweepstakes that gives participants a chance to meet Tinker Bell and see the Disneyland Resort in a whole new light as Summer Nightastic! generates high-energy excitement. The resort’s summer promotion runs from June 12 through August 23.
Disneyland Hotel Scheduled for a Significant Renovation
Beginning in August 2009, Southern California’s landmark Disneyland Hotel will start a significant renovation project that will include major improvements to its guest rooms and considerable changes to the exterior of the hotel. The hotel will remain open during the renovation, which will be conducted in phases, and is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
Magic Under the Park – Walt Disney World’s Utilidors
When plans for Walt Disney’s second theme park in Florida were being developed, the Imagineers decided to design a system of tunnels, called “Utilidors,” under the park so that cast members and service people can travel from land to land without being seen by guests and thus help keep the magic in place.
Summer Nightastic! Underway at Disneyland Resort
As previously promised, Disney kicked off the summer season this past weekend with the Summer Nightastic! promotion, featuring the relaunch of an improved Fantasmic! and Electrical Parade, the debut of the all-new Magical Fireworks show, the TLT Dance Club and Pixie Hollow Enchantment overlays.
Maleficent (the Dragon) Will Not Debut in Disney’s Summer Spectacular Version of Fantasmic
As the saying goes, “the show must go on.” Disney’s revamped version of Fantasmic will debut as part of their Summer Spectacular promotion but without one of its stars – Maleficent, the 40 tall fire-breathing Dragon. Apparently during rehearsals, the dragon broke down.
Flying Dumbo to be Included in Disneyland Fireworks Show
Disneyland will soon introduce a flying Dumbo into the all-new Magical fireworks show, part of Disneyland’s Summer Nightastic promotion which begins June 12. Rather than an audio-animatronic machine floating above the Sleeping Beauty Castle, master puppeteer and longtime Disney collaborator Michael Curry, envisions a dancer in space performing on a wire 65 feet above the ground.
D23 Expo, the Ultimate Disney Fan Experience, Comes To Anaheim in September
Disney fans and enthusiasts will be given unprecedented access to never-before-seen movies, TV shows, park experiences, collectibles and more from September 10 to September 13 at the Anaheim Convention Center when Disney and D23: The Official Community for Disney Fans present the first-ever D23 EXPO.
Become Donald Duck’s Official Portrait Artist
In honor of the irascible, cranky, mischievous, outrageous and very humorous Donald Duck’s birthday which just happens to fall on June 9, Disney’s D23 is commissioning an official portrait from those who know Donald best– his fans. For the first time ever, Disney is turning to fans to create an official portrait of one of its biggest stars.

Last summer The Walt Disney Company took a big step into the realm of “virtual tourism” by introducing the Walt Disney World Park in Google Earth. Users were able to click on maps that show about 1,500 rides, restaurants and attractions all in 3-D.
Disney to Build 500 Room Resort in National Harbor, Maryland
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts recently announced the purchase of a 15-acre site in National Harbor, Maryland overlooking the Potomac River for $11 million. The site is slated to be home to a 500-room resort, though Disney has not yet announced details or a start date for the work.

Saying Goodbye to Wayne Allwine (1947 – 2009), The Voice of Mickey Mouse
Wayne Allwine, a Walt Disney Studios voice-over artist who was the voice of Mickey Mouse for more than three decades, died of complications of diabetes early Monday morning at UCLA Medical Center. He was 62 years young. Wayne was the third voice of Mickey Mouse, a role he assumed from Jimmy MacDonald.
